Lillian Newman got her start in soapmaking in 1995 as a coping mechanism for issues with dry skin. In 2000, her sister-in-law, upon using a bar of her soap, stated to her that she should open a business making soap and with this, Fragrant Blossom Soaps was born.
Each bar of soap is handcrafted carefully from the finest of ingredients, sourcing from sustainable resources, paying more for rainforest friendly oils. Olive continues to be the primary ingredient in Fragrant Blossom Soaps, followed by coconut, sustainable rainforest friendly palm, castor, kokum butter, shea butter and avocado oil. No animal fats are used in the production of Fragrant Blossom Soaps. No aspect of her business is sourced from companies that purchase from wholesalers who advocate animal cruelty. Last year, Fragrant Blossom Soaps donated over $500 to Robin's Nest LLC, a kitten animal rescue based in Indianapolis and fostered 8 homeless kittens in her home for 8 weeks.
The production of her soap is housed in what was once a commercial shop attached to her 121 year old farmhouse. Every Monday morning, Lillian goes out to the studio and spends all day generating the soaps you love. Ingredients are purchased in bulk because that results in a cost savings to the customer. Lillian focused on how to maximize savings to soap customers while delivering the best quality soap. In 2010, her soap was selected for a presidential gift basket and went to the White House.
Lillian's made soap for a quarter of a century now and she is a regular presence at the Sunspot, not only as a soap artisan but also as a customer. She is honored to be a soap artisan selling her handmade soap at the Sunspot and loves being part of a healthy and positive market for the Kokomo area and beyond.
